Apparently Eliot “Client 9” Spitzer still has a show on CNN. Who knew? This week, while moderating a debate between two Muslim feminists, the guy who got caught screwing around on his wife with a hooker offered his expert assessment of whether the burqa is degrading to women.
There are lots of type of dress that I look at and I don’t like them. I think they’re degrading. I think they’re oppressive. You know, a lots of things that I see teenagers wearing that, you know, I’m now viewed as old-fashioned by my kids perhaps. I don’t go around saying we should pass a law banning it.
How two self-identified feminists, Mona Eltahawy and Hebah Ahmed, could listen to Spitzer summon his inner feminist without giggle-snorting or walking off the set is beyond me. I didn’t even catch a smirk. (In all fairness, Ahmed was wearing a niqab and could have been sticking out her tongue and flipping him off–who would know?)
I guess they’re willing to swallow their pride (and their snickers) as long as they get a chance to cling to his ship as it sinks in the ratings.
