Marco Rubio is Wrong About Planned Parenthood’s Aims

Lori is 100 percent right about Marco Rubio’s take on taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. It is utterly “absurd and disgusting” that Democrats continue to ignore the well documented lies, corruption, and criminality that define Planned Parenthood’s organizational culture. The refusal to consider Planned Parenthood funding cuts is fiscally irresponsible and morally reprehensible.

But here’s the one thing Rubio got wrong in his Fox News hit:

I have problems with what Planned Parenthood does and ultimately what the aim of their organization is. And it’s not their stated aims, it’s what they actually do.

Actually, it’s their stated aims as well as what they actually do. Let’s look at one of those “stated aims” as entered on a recent Planned Parenthood tax filing:

Achieving, through informed individual choice, a U.S. population of stable size in an optimum environment

That little tidbit doesn’t appear in the mission statement on Planned Parenthood’s website. Instead, we’re treated to saccharine language about enhancing “quality of life and strong family relationships.”

All of which is Orwellian Newspeak for “population control.”

Champions of Planned Parenthood parrot the organization’s talking points about women’s health and reproductive rights. But at its core, Planned Parenthood isn’t about making sure individual women have the means to control their reproductive destinies through birth control and cancer screenings. It’s not even about the right to terminate an inconvenient pregnancy. If we take the organization’s “stated aims” at face value, Planned Parenthood’s mission is to achieve a sinister Malthusian goal: zero population growth.

Marco Rubio and other conservative members of congress have an opportunity to make sure Planned Parenthood’s population control aims don’t slip under the radar of the American people as they have for so long. Human beings are our country’s greatest resource, not a planetary blight to be limited and controlled through government-funded efforts.

Forget playing nice. Forget “new tone.” And for God’s sake, forget the niceties that require us to accept that Planned Parenthood’s stated aims are those they spout on cable news each night. It’s all there in print, and it’s time to call them out on it.
