Not a Libyan URL Shortener

I wish I had thought of this first. Dammit.

Gadaf.fi is a new Finnish-registered URL shortener designed to compete with shortening services like bit.ly and ow.ly. Because gadaf.fi doesn’t  live on an .ly domain, it’s not subject to Libyan law.

A controversial url shortening service vb.ly got their domain seized by Libyan authorities because it violated the nations Sharia Laws. The Site owners speculate that the future might be uncertain for short-named sites relying solely on the .ly domain and made the claim that the domain was seized for economical reasons rather than that the content was in conlict with the naitons sharia laws.

The URLs generated by gadaf.fi are still longer than the ones generated by is.gd, my preferred URL shortener. But gadaf.fi gets points for amusing me. So there’s that.
